Connect to Nature
We believe that architecture is an opportunity to enrich the relationship between people and the environment. Through architecture, we strive to connect people with their surroundings to create a sense of belonging. Simultaneously, we use sustainable and green design techniques to minimize the impact of our projects on the planet. At Gettliffe Architecture, sustainability is a long-term commitment. Through our work we aim to support a healthy environment and a stable global climate.
As part of our approach, we integrate new structures within the existing landscape by embracing natural site features. We also carefully consider the siting and orientation of each building, which is key to regulating natural heating and cooling, along with other green building approaches. In dry and temperate Colorado for example, passive solar techniques are optimal to reduce the use of non-renewable resources by using the sun’s energy to provide daily warmth and comfort. In tropical climates, passive cooling and solar heat protection regulate heat and humidity. The selection of materials that are suitable to the local climate and landscape is another critical consideration in our approach. We strive to make conscientious choices about the local and global effects of architecture and construction, creating structures that contribute to and are part of the local environment.
